"Looking at these stars suddenly dwarfed my own troubles and all the gravities of terrestrial life. I thought of their unfathomable distance, and the slow inevitable drift of their movements out of the unknown past into the unknown future." — H. G. Wells, The Time Machine, 1895
This quote sums up beautifully the therapy that the cosmos provide for me in my own life. These days it’s easy to tune out the natural world around you. Yet, on a clear night, when I accidentally catch a glimpse of a star out of the corner of my eye I am stopped in my tracks. I gaze up and soak in the night sky as more stars emerge into view. The struggles of every day life quickly wash away as I realign with my place in the Universe.
So on Sunday of Wondercon when I took a mini-break, I had a few people approach me with a camera. At first I was going to tell them the regular, ‘I’m sorry I’m eating” spiel. But then there were like “ACTUALLY…”
Anyway when they told me that they had started an Instagram of cosplayers eating I laughed so hard. I thought it was such a cute and nifty idea!
do you ever get so disgusted with yourself, like you can not believe how stupid and thoughtless you are and it’s so frustrating because you keep telling yourself that you’ll do better next time but then next time rolls around and the same thing keeps happening and you end up in this pattern of mediocrity.
